Poland establishes Council for Senior Policy

The Polish government has established the Council for Senior Policy, a 24-member advisory body tasked with addressing the challenges of an aging society. Appointed by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the Council is chaired by Marzena Okła-Drewnowicz, the Government Plenipotentiary for Senior Policy. The group includes scientists, local government officials, and representatives from NGOs, employers, and trade unions.

The Council’s primary objective is to develop the Senior Policy Strategy by translating expert knowledge into actionable guidelines. Key focus areas include ensuring the safety and active participation of older citizens, expanding social services, and promoting modern technologies within the silver economy. The body will also work to foster intergenerational solidarity and protect the dignity and equal treatment of seniors.

Among the appointed members is Professor Piotr Błędowski, an expert in the social and macroeconomic aspects of aging. The Council serves as an advisory organ to the Minister for Senior Policy, providing recommendations, identifying best practices, and supporting research-driven solutions to improve the support system for the elderly.
