Poland expands bottle‑deposit collection with courier service and private pick‑up offers
Poland's deposit system for beverage containers, in force since October 2025, assigns a 50‑grosz charge for plastic bottles and cans and 1 zł for reusable glass bottles. New collection options have emerged. Private individuals advertise services to collect bags of empty containers from homes, offices or stairwells, receiving the full or a share of the recovered deposit. Advertisements cite minimum bag sizes of 60 liters and contact‑free pickup.
Separately, the Frisco supermarket chain (part of Eurocash) now includes free deposit‑bag pickup with its online orders. Couriers deliver a bag, the customer fills it, and the bag’s barcode links the contents to the shopper’s account. The full deposit value is credited as a voucher or can be refunded to a bank account. By the end of June, Frisco customers returned close to 4 million containers, with more than 25 thousand users – roughly 20 % of its shoppers – and the share of orders using the service rose from about 5 % in February to 25 % in June.
