Poland expands deposit‑return recycling with Frisco home‑pickup service
Online grocery retailer Frisco has introduced a home‑pickup option for Poland's deposit‑return containers. Starting in the second half of January 2026, couriers in Warsaw, Łódź, Kraków and Wrocław collect bags of eligible plastic bottles and cans during grocery deliveries, allowing customers to obtain refunds via coupons or bank transfers without visiting overloaded bottle‑return machines.
The Ministry of Climate and Environment reports that the national deposit‑return scheme has already seen 1 billion containers returned, with about 57 000 collection points operating across the country. Officials highlight reduced litter, lower municipal clean‑up costs and the creation of green jobs. However, the ministry also notes shortcomings: unclear overall collection rates, financial strain on municipalities that lost revenue from PET bottle waste, limited participation in smaller towns, and logistical emissions from transporting containers to sorting facilities. Additionally, many consumers receive vouchers rather than cash for their refunds.
