Poland expands drug reimbursement list and eases e‑prescription rules
The Polish Ministry of Health announced a third reimbursement list for 2026, adding 25 new therapies – 10 oncology and 15 non‑oncology treatments, including medicines for rare diseases and conditions such as Parkinson’s, Crohn’s disease, psoriasis, hypertension and heart failure. The government also confirmed a budget of 1.1 billion PLN for innovative drug technologies and a streamlined procedure to fast‑track proven therapies.
From 18 June, a new e‑prescription feature allows patients to continue a prescription at any pharmacy, ending the previous rule that required the entire prescription to be filled at the dispensing pharmacy. The pilot was tested in pharmacies in Łódź and Kalisz and will be expanded nationwide.
Separately, the National Health Fund introduced a central e‑registration system for first‑time specialist, mammography and HPV‑screening appointments, with penalties for clinics that fail to upload schedules by the end of May. Payments to non‑compliant facilities may be suspended for up to three months, and from 1 July only appointments booked through the e‑registration will be funded.
The Pharmaceutical Inspectorate also issued a series of product withdrawals for safety reasons, removing several over‑the‑counter and prescription medicines – such as the throat‑spray Envil, Kidofen suppositories, Recenum Junior/Baby, Inuprin Forte syrup, and various antibiotics and specialist drugs – from pharmacy shelves across the country.
