Poland expands free school meals and proposes oncology “right to be forgotten” law

From September 2026, families in Poland that meet an income threshold of 1 646 zł per person will be eligible for free school meals for their children under the government’s “Meal in School and at Home” program (2024‑2028). Applications must be submitted to the Social Assistance Center in Godziszów in August, with required income documentation. The benefit does not count the 800+ child allowance as income.

Separately, five public institutions—including the Financial Ombudsman, the Ombudsman for Citizens’ Rights and the Patient Rights Ombudsman—have presented a joint proposal for an “oncology right to be forgotten.” After five years from the end of cancer treatment, information about the disease could not be used in insurance contracts for consumer credit, aiming to prevent denial of coverage or higher premiums for survivors.
