Poland expands long‑range attack drone production amid border tensions

Poland has launched a new production line for the Hornet long‑range attack drone, a system designed domestically by the private industrial group Boryszew in partnership with the Air Force Institute of Technology. The unmanned aircraft can exceed 200 km/h and has an operational range of 400 to 1,200 km, depending on configuration. Tests are already under way, while serial‑production awaits regulatory approval.

Assembly takes place at Boryszew’s Sochaczew plant, where workers mount the drones on the factory floor and demonstrate a launch catapult. Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk described the Hornet as a “Polish Shahed” and outlined plans for a fleet of long‑range drones, jet‑powered systems and cruise missiles capable of striking targets beyond 1,000 km. Boryszew, employing about 6,000 staff across 29 global sites, says defence products are a core part of its 2025‑2029 business plan.
