Poland expands photoradar network and clarifies rear‑camera capabilities

Poland’s road‑traffic authority CANARD reported that by the end of 2025 the country operated 477 fixed‑location photoradars and 114 segment‑speed measurement systems, with plans to add dozens of new units and red‑light cameras. In 2025 the devices recorded more than 730,000 speed violations from stationary cameras and an additional 470,000 from segment measurements, totaling over one million traffic tickets.

The devices are managed jointly by CANARD and the police, which also uses handheld radars and dash‑cameras. While most stationary photoradars capture images from the front of a vehicle, certain models such as MultaRadar CD, TraffiStar SR390 and Mesta Fusion RN can also photograph the rear, a feature useful for motorcycles that display rear plates. Images are taken from 10‑30 metres, contain the license plate, speed, limit, date, location and device ID, and notices are typically sent to vehicle owners within two to four weeks.
