Polish police hand out heavy fines and license suspensions for dangerous road maneuvers
Police across Poland have imposed substantial penalties on drivers who performed hazardous maneuvers on public roads. A 19‑year‑old in Radzyn Podlaski was fined 2 550 zł and received 31 penalty points after overtaking pedestrians on a crosswalk, ignoring a double solid line and driving on a closed lane. The driver’s licence was revoked until he re‑passes the exam.
On 23 June, a 51‑year‑old woman on the A1 near Kamieńsk turned around on an entry lane and drove the emergency lane in the opposite direction, prompting a police investigation and a court‑bound fine. A 71‑year‑old driver on the S1 near Węgierska Górka also turned around and drove against traffic, receiving fines totaling 3 100 zł and 22 penalty points.
Other recent cases include a 44‑year‑old woman in Wałbrzych caught driving 103 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, losing her licence and a 1 500 zł fine with 13 points, and a driver on DK16 whose unattended vehicle rolled into a ditch after the driver left it without engagement of the handbrake, resulting in a police warning.
These incidents illustrate a broader crackdown by Polish traffic police, supported by an expanding network of average‑speed cameras (OPP) that recorded over 470 000 violations in 2025, and by public campaigns urging drivers to respect speed limits and avoid illegal turns or reverse travel on highways.
