Poland extends border controls with Germany and Lithuania to 2027

Poland has announced the extension of temporary border controls with Germany and Lithuania until March 30, 2027. The decision, made by the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, aims to combat illegal migration and enhance national security.

Since the controls were initially implemented on July 7, 2025, authorities have inspected approximately 4.5 million people and 2.3 million vehicles. The measures have resulted in nearly 1,300 entry denials at the Lithuanian border and approximately 1,200 at the German border.

The government has also updated the territorial scope of these controls, modifying 13 crossings on the Lithuanian border and 11 on the German border. Officials noted that the extension is necessary due to persistent migration pressures from the east via the Baltic states and the risk of secondary migration movements from the German direction.
