Poland faces political deadlock despite economic growth

Despite strong economic performance, including GDP growth and low unemployment, Poland is facing significant political instability. According to reports from the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung, the country is experiencing a sense of public disappointment as the promised ‘new beginning’ under the current administration has failed to materialize.

While the government led by Donald Tusk has successfully rebuilt relations with the European Union and implemented changes to public media, efforts to restore the rule of law have stalled. This deadlock is attributed to resistance from the President and the Constitutional Tribunal, both of which maintain ties to the previous Law and Justice (PiS) administration. Additionally, social and economic reforms are reportedly being delayed.

Political polling suggests that while Tusk’s party remains the largest single group with approximately 30 percent of the vote, it lacks sufficient coalition partners to form a stable government. Conversely, PiS could potentially secure a majority through alliances with more right-wing parties. The current political friction is described as a factor that harms both the nation and the broader European region.
