Poland faces political shifts in accountability and party leadership

The political landscape in Poland is experiencing shifts regarding both accountability for previous administrations and internal party dynamics within the Law and Justice (PiS) party.

Regarding the investigation of the previous government, Gawlik, chairman of the Constitutional Responsibility Commission, emphasized that legal standards and procedural integrity must take precedence over the speed of reforms. He noted that while voters may desire rapid accountability for past irregularities, rushing processes could lead to legal errors or violations of international law, potentially resulting in compensation claims against the state.

Simultaneously, the internal authority of Jarosław Kaczyński within PiS appears to be facing challenges. The party is seeing signs of fragmentation, highlighted by former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki's decision to seek political independence and build his own circle. Reports suggest declining support and internal dissent, as prominent figures increasingly voice criticisms that were previously kept behind closed doors.
