Poland fuel prices rise as summer discounts end and market pressures mount

The government‑backed “Ceny Paliwa Niżej” (CPN) program that lowered VAT on gasoline and diesel to 8 % ended on 30 June. With the VAT returning to 23 % and excise duties restored, fuel stations can set prices freely. Analysts note that Brent crude has risen above $80 per barrel, increasing the risk of higher pump prices.

Retailers have introduced limited‑time promotions to soften the impact. Orlen offers a 25–40 gr/L discount for Vitay app users, BP’s “Tankuj 35 gr/L cheaper” runs until 1 September for BPme users, and Shell’s ClubSmart program provides a 20 gr/L rebate on selected fuels, extendable to 35 gr/L with additional purchases. All discounts are limited in frequency and duration.

Minister of Energy Miłosz Motyka said the ministry is closely monitoring the situation, especially the fallout from tensions in the Middle East, and remains in contact with the Finance Ministry. While signals from international partners are currently “calming,” the government hopes for a price decline but acknowledges that global oil market dynamics could push prices upward.
