Poland faces rising hybrid threats and Russian provocations

Poland is facing an escalation of hybrid warfare tactics attributed to Russia. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski warned that intelligence suggests Russia may be preparing a significant action this year, potentially using a false-flag attack to justify domestic mobilization.

Recent incidents include a Russian Mi-8 military helicopter entering Polish airspace for 42 seconds and reports of Russian intelligence recruiting individuals to conduct sabotage within the country. Additionally, Polish security services have linked an attempted arson at the WB Electronics defense firm to the Kremlin.

Despite these security concerns, public perception remains divided. An IBRiS survey indicates that only approximately 16 percent of the Polish population fears the war in Ukraine will spill over into Poland, highlighting a gap between official warnings and public awareness of hybrid threats.
