Poland Files Extradition Request to US for Former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro

Poland's prosecutor office has formally requested the United States to extradite former justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro, who has been residing in the US since May. Ziobro is wanted on 26 criminal counts linked to alleged irregularities in the Justice Fund, including directing subordinates to break the law to allocate funds, manipulating competition procedures and granting money to unqualified entities. A Polish court ordered his arrest in February and an arrest warrant was issued in July.

The extradition dossier, reportedly close to 300 pages, has been sent through diplomatic channels to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Polish authorities note that Ziobro's Hungarian political asylum and passports were revoked earlier this year, and his wife and former deputy minister also had their travel documents cancelled.
