Poland gets €1.1 bn for expressways, raises S6 speed to 120 km/h

Poland's road authority GDDKiA signed a three‑party agreement with the Bank of Poland Development (BGK) and the Ministry of Infrastructure to use €1.1 billion granted by the European Investment Bank. The funds will finance roughly 205 km of new expressways, principally sections of the S17 corridor in the Lublin region and the S74 route linking the central‑west hub of the A1/A2/A8 network to Kielce, Opatów and the future S19. The investment is part of the EU Cohesion Fund (CEF 2) and is intended to strengthen west‑east transport links, improve civilian and military mobility and reduce bottlenecks on the international E372 route.

Separately, the S6 expressway between Sianów and Sławno was opened to full operation, allowing a maximum speed of 120 km/h after the temporary 80 km/h restriction was lifted. The 46‑km segment, costing over 1.35 billion zł, includes eight junctions and two service areas (MOP Karwice). It completes a key part of the Via Hanseatica corridor, providing a faster coastal route for drivers.

Both projects enhance Poland’s transport infrastructure, support regional economic development and align with broader EU connectivity goals.
