Poland grain market: August harvest data shows supply shifts
Statistics Poland (GUS) has released agricultural data for August 2026, highlighting significant shifts in the grain market and weather-related challenges. The average air temperature for the month was 19.1°C, which is 0.7°C higher than the 1991–2020 average. While total precipitation was 16.9% higher than the long-term average, uneven distribution caused soil water deficits in several regions, complicating post-harvest activities such as pre-sowing plowing and sowing stubble crops.
Regarding grain supply, the collection of basic cereals at the end of the harvest increased by 64.6% compared to July, largely due to a later start to the harvesting season. Supply saw significant increases for rye (over 3-fold), triticale (over 2-fold), and wheat (nearly 2-fold). Conversely, barley collection decreased by 47.0% compared to July. Overall, total grain delivery was 17.1% lower than in August of the previous year, driven by declines across all major cereal types.
