Poland Halts MiG‑29 Transfer to Ukraine Over Unsettled Drone Technology Deal

Poland has suspended the delivery of additional MiG‑29 fighter jets to Ukraine, linking any further transfer to the completion of negotiations on Ukrainian drone and anti‑drone technologies. Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk told Radio ZET that the equipment will be handed over once the drone‑technology agreement is finalized, and noted that nothing has changed in the talks.

Poland previously supplied 14 MiG‑29s in 2023 – half of its fleet – and had considered handing over the remaining aircraft, which are nearing the end of their service life. The Polish Air Force is replacing the Soviet‑era jets with newer platforms such as the FA‑50, F‑16 and F‑35. The proposed exchange aims to give Poland access to Ukrainian drone capabilities while providing Ukraine with the fighters.
