Poland heat wave claims two lives in separate incidents

Two women died on the same Sunday as Poland experienced record-breaking heat. In the village of Huta, Greater Poland region, a 47‑year‑old woman was found unresponsive while sunbathing on her property. Emergency responders performed resuscitation but she could not be saved; an autopsy noted sunburn and rain‑stain marks, with the exact cause still under investigation.

In Chełm, Lublin region, a 63‑year‑old woman was discovered unconscious on the closed Glinianki bathing area. Police, fire crews and medical teams arrived, but she died before treatment could be given. Local officials said the likely cause was a reaction to the extreme temperatures.

Meteorological services warned that temperatures across Poland were reaching 39‑41 °C, with a national record of 40.5 °C recorded elsewhere. Authorities urged the public to avoid prolonged sun exposure, stay hydrated and limit physical effort during the heatwave.
