Poland honors long-term marriages with presidential medals
In Poland, couples celebrating 50 or more years of marriage are eligible for the Medal for Long-term Marital Cohabitation, a state distinction awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland. While the medal is a significant honor, it does not include any financial benefits. A recent proposal in the Senate to provide one-time cash payments for various marriage anniversaries—ranging from 5,000 PLN for 50 years to 8,000 PLN for 80 years—was rejected by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Family and Social Policy.
In Stalowa Wola, 21 couples recently celebrated their golden and diamond wedding anniversaries. Local officials, including Mayor Lucjusz Nadbereżny and Civil Registry Office head Marcin Maziarz, presented the couples with the presidential medals and commemorative engraved glasses. The ceremony highlighted the contribution of these long-married couples to the development and social fabric of the city.
