Poland honors veterans of the struggle for independence

Various ceremonies are being held in Poland to honor veterans of the struggle for independence. In Korzeniów, a memorial plaque from the Institute of National Remembrance will be unveiled to commemorate Józef Wójcik. Wójcik was a soldier of the Polish Army who fought in the Battle of Monte Cassino and was later appointed to the rank of second lieutenant by the President of Poland in 2002.

In Księginice Wielkie, the grave of Major Józef Oleksiewicz was designated with the insignia ‘Grave of a Veteran of the Struggle for Freedom and Independence of Poland’. Oleksiewicz was a soldier of the Home Army and the post-war independence underground. The ceremony was organized by the Wrocław branch of the Institute of National Remembrance and local educational institutions.
