Poland implements military reforms and competence testing

Poland is implementing significant reforms to its military administration and personnel management. In 2027, approximately 245,000 people are expected to undergo military qualification. The Ministry of National Defence has proposed regulations for medical commissions to operate from February through May. This process aims to update military records and assess physical and mental fitness rather than reinstating mandatory conscription.

To optimize human resources, the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces is piloting the Military Competence Questionnaire (WKK). This mandatory test is designed to identify the specific talents and professional backgrounds of soldiers—such as dentists or pilots—to better utilize their skills within various units. While the WKK is currently being tested, its full implementation for all soldiers is expected after 2027.

These developments coincide with a significant increase in defense spending. In 2026, Poland's total defense effort is projected to reach approximately 200.1 billion PLN, representing 4.81% of the forecasted GDP, an increase of about 13.5 billion PLN from the previous year.
