Poland introduces extensive health and school nutrition reforms
From 1 September 2026 Polish school canteens will stop selling sugary drinks, energy drinks, sweets, pastries, chips, most ice‑cream and other highly processed snacks, replacing them with fresh fruit, vegetables, whole‑grain products and other healthier options.
The Ministry of Health also sets a ceiling on remuneration for doctors employed by the public health system: a maximum of 240 zł gross per hour and a monthly cap of about 58 000 zł (higher caps of up to roughly 76 000 zł for department heads). The aim is to curb excessive billing and standardise earnings.
Effective 1 August 2026 the long‑standing cytology test for cervical‑cancer screening will be replaced by a free, high‑risk HPV molecular test for all women, with a longer five‑year interval for negative results.
From 13 September 2026 all reimbursed prescriptions must include the therapy duration, use structured dosing and specify package size matching the official register; prescriptions that do not meet these criteria will be rejected by the e‑prescription system.
The National Health Fund will increase unannounced inspections by adding more doctor‑controllers to detect upcoding of hospital procedures.
Also from 1 August 2026 patients can book appointments with endocrinologists and a range of other specialists through the central e‑registration platform (Internetowe Konto Pacjenta or mojeIKP), simplifying access to specialist care.
