Poland implements stricter alcohol sales regulations

Poland is seeing a tightening of alcohol sales regulations at both local and national levels. In Kraków, new rules implemented on September 1st have extended the nighttime alcohol ban. Retailers, including supermarkets, discount stores, and gas stations, are now prohibited from selling alcohol for off-site consumption between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

At the national level, there is growing political consensus regarding the regulation of small, high-proof alcohol bottles (under 200 ml), often referred to as ‘małpki’. Members of the Sejm Health Committee have expressed cross-party support for banning these small containers to combat alcoholism. Additionally, the Ministry of Climate and Environment is expected to make decisions regarding the management of small glass bottles following the summer period, while the Ministry of Health continues to explore broader changes to alcohol trade and promotion rules.
