Polish police step up traffic safety checks on electric scooters and other road users

Police units in several Polish regions carried out intensive operations targeting electric bicycles, scooters and other vulnerable road users. In Wrocław, officers conducted the "Electric Bike and Scooter" action, checking 447 drivers, issuing 85 fines and three court referrals. In the Dolny Śląsk area, a similar campaign recorded over 950 checks and identified more than 660 violations, most of them speed‑related or involving passengers on scooters. The Tarnobrzeg police announced a three‑day "Scooter safely to the destination" sweep, focusing on speed, helmet use and the prohibition of carrying passengers.

Separate incidents highlighted the dangers of unsafe behaviour. A 19‑year‑old on a scooter ran a 71‑year‑old pedestrian at a crosswalk in Wolbrom and fled, prompting a police‑released video. In Józefów, a 26‑year‑old driver with an active court‑imposed driving ban caused a fatal pedestrian collision. Other enforcement actions included checks at railway crossings in Ostrołęka, where 29 drivers ignored STOP signs, and city‑wide parking violations in Katowice that resulted in 99 fines.

Overall, the police emphasis on education, fines and prosecutions underscores a national push to curb traffic violations and improve safety for all road participants.
