Poland expands healthcare access through screenings and digital reforms

Poland is implementing several healthcare initiatives and reforms aimed at improving preventive care and digital access. The National Health Fund (NFZ) is expanding screening programs, including mobile mammography units in regions like Nowy Sącz and free lung cancer screenings via low-dose CT scans for residents of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Digitalization efforts are accelerating through the Internetowe Konto Pacjenta (IKP) and the mojeIKP app. By the end of 2027, patients will be able to schedule appointments with dozens of medical specialists, including neurologists, rheumatologists, and oncologists, directly through these digital platforms.

Legislative changes are also underway regarding social benefits and medical infrastructure. The government is proposing amendments to allow voluntary sickness insurance for certain workers and is developing a senior voucher program to fund home care services. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health's plan for District Health Centers (PCZ) has faced criticism from medical experts and the National Medical Council, who express concerns regarding staffing requirements and the feasibility of the proposed scope of services.
