Poland introduces new safety regulations for electric scooters

Rising numbers of electric scooter accidents in Poland have prompted new safety regulations for 2026. In 2025, there were 1,158 recorded incidents resulting in 11 deaths and 1,055 injuries. Data shows a significant impact on youth, with children aged 7 to 14 and teenagers aged 15 to 17 accounting for a substantial portion of the casualties.

New regulations aim to mitigate these risks through mandatory helmet use, speed limits, and the implementation of dedicated scooter paths to separate them from pedestrians and cars.

Scientific research published in Scientific Reports highlights the specific dangers of e-scooters, noting that users are approximately 3.5 times more likely to suffer serious brain injuries than motorcyclists. The study suggests that while scooter users may face fewer orthopedic fractures, they are at a much higher risk for traumatic brain injuries, internal organ damage, and vascular injuries due to the nature of the vehicles and infrequent helmet use.
