Poland police conduct widespread road safety and enforcement operations

Police across Poland have conducted extensive road safety operations, resulting in numerous citations and arrests for various traffic violations. Under the coordinated “Speed” campaign involving ROADPOL, officers identified hundreds of speeding offenses, including extreme cases where drivers reached speeds of 175 km/h and 178 km/h in restricted zones.

Law enforcement also targeted driving under the influence and drug use. Notable incidents include the arrest of a judge in Szczecin for driving while intoxicated, a 40-year-old man driving with over 3 per mille of alcohol, and a driver in Opole caught with marijuana and amphetamines. In one instance in Nowa Dęba, citizens intervened to prevent a drunk driver from leaving a parking lot.

Other enforcement actions included crackdowns on noise pollution, where a driver was fined 4,400 PLN for an excessively loud vehicle, and inspections at railway crossings in Wejherowo. Additionally, customs officials in Medyka intercepted nearly 30,000 smuggled cigarettes hidden in vehicle seats. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Infrastructure is considering reducing the measurement error margin for speed cameras from 10 km/h to 5 km/h to increase enforcement precision.
