Poland reports multiple water safety alerts as bacterial contamination forces beach closures and boil‑water advisories

Local health authorities in several Polish municipalities have issued water‑quality alerts. In the Kościerzyna gmina, water at the Wdzydze and Dobrogoszcz beaches was confirmed safe for swimming, allowing residents and tourists to use the lakes without restrictions.

Conversely, bacterial contamination prompted strict measures elsewhere. The State Sanitary Inspectorate detected coliform bacteria in the Wilcze water source of Istebna, leading to a complete halt of drinking‑water supply, distribution of water from tanker trucks, and a switch to an alternative reservoir. In Radzanowo, a similar coliform finding resulted in a temporary water ban and the deployment of a 20‑tonne water tanker from Ostrołęka. The Cichawa water system in the Biskupice gmina was placed under a boil‑water advisory, requiring residents to boil water for any consumption. Beaches at Malinka (Zgierz) and two inland lakes on the Kaszuby coast (Dobrogoszcz and Jelenie) were closed after tests showed Escherichia coli levels above permissible limits. Sinice (cyanobacteria) blooms forced the closure of the Mochel lake beach in Kamień Krajeński and led to a ban at the Wodnik bathing area in Kuźnia Raciborska.

Additional incidents included non‑potable water in Miłoradzice and Buczynka, where supply was limited to toilet flushing, and a sewage overflow in Świdnica that released fecal matter into the Wapienniczka stream, prompting investigations and planned repairs. These alerts highlight ongoing challenges in water safety across Poland.
