Poland Keeps Fuel Prices Low as Energy Transition Plans Advance

Polish Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka said the government is reviewing the future of the Ceny Paliwa Niżej (CPN) fuel‑price programme, with no decision yet on its continuation beyond June 15. The regulator has extended the current gas tariff for households for another six months, keeping prices unchanged despite a 32‑43 % rise in European wholesale markets. Motyka highlighted Poland’s low fuel prices in the EU, the expected first power from offshore wind farms this year, and ongoing investments in renewable sources and energy storage as factors that will help keep energy costs down.

The state‑controlled oil group Orlen, which has recently posted record capitalisation and strong dividends, reaffirmed its role in stabilising the market, noting past reductions in gas and fuel tariffs. Meanwhile, a major conference on energy transformation and security is scheduled for October in Zakopane, bringing together scientists, industry leaders and government officials to discuss coal’s role, decarbonisation, nuclear power, offshore wind and the broader shift to renewable energy in Poland.
