Poland launches first commercial agricultural biomethane plant
Poland has launched its first commercial agricultural biomethane plant in Komorowo, near Ostrowa Mazowiecka. Owned by the private company Agro-Biogas, the facility produces renewable gas from agricultural waste, specifically manure and slurry.
The plant has an installed capacity of 1 MW and is expected to produce approximately 20 GWh (or 2.1 million cubic meters) of biomethane annually. The gas is injected directly into the national gas grid via a connection provided by Polska Spółka Gazownictwa (PSG).
Axpo holds a minority stake in the project and has signed a 20-year off-take agreement to purchase and distribute the produced gas. The project aims to utilize roughly 58,600 tons of substrate per year, with waste heat being repurposed and digestate used as organic fertilizer. This development is seen as a step toward reducing reliance on imported gas, as Poland's national energy and climate plans aim for significantly higher biomethane production in the future.
