Polish Sejm rejects senior parents' 1600 zł monthly benefit proposal

A citizen‑initiated petition called for a new monthly payment of 1600 zł for parents who raised at least two children whose adult offspring now work and pay taxes in Poland. The proposal argued that such parents have contributed to the state’s pension and health‑care finances and therefore deserve compensation.

The Sejm’s Committee on Petitions examined the request and decided not to advance it, concluding that existing family‑support programmes (e.g., 800 plus) already cover current needs and that a separate senior‑parent benefit would duplicate existing measures. Related discussions have also highlighted other compensation ideas, such as a pension supplement of 2350 zł for mothers of four children, but none have been adopted.

As a result, the 1600 zł benefit will not be introduced, leaving senior parents without the proposed additional financial support.
