Poland launches rainwater tank subsidies and eases building rules

From 22 June, Poland’s regional water protection funds will reimburse up to 90 % of eligible costs for rainwater‑capture installations on single‑family homes, with a maximum grant of 8 000 zł. Applicants must spend at least 2 000 zł, install tanks of at least 2 m³ capacity covering a minimum 50 m² roof area, and cannot have previously used the “Moja Woda” programme.

A separate amendment to the Building Law, effective 7 January 2026, simplifies procedures for rainwater tanks. Installations up to 5 m³ require no notification; tanks between 5 m³ and 15 m³ (30 m³ for farms) need only a simple registration, while larger systems demand full building permits. Applicants must also verify zoning status and, for farms, may need a land‑use decision before proceeding. Both measures aim to boost water conservation amid rising drought risk.
