Poland launches nationwide senior support and safety initiatives

Throughout Poland, various initiatives and events are being organized to support and integrate the elderly population. A major nationwide campaign, the ZUS Senior Days, is running throughout October 2026. Under the theme ‘Senior says: I check. A conscious senior in a world of disinformation,’ the program focuses on digital safety, combating fake news, and protecting seniors from online scams and telephone fraud.

In addition to national awareness campaigns, local municipalities and organizations are hosting diverse activities. These include cultural workshops, educational trips, health screenings, and social gatherings in regions such as Pomerania, Małopolska, Mazovia, and Podkarpacie. Programs range from museum visits and theatrical workshops to physical activities like yoga and nordic walking.

On the administrative side, the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) is addressing the issue of ‘penny pensions’—extremely low monthly benefits. ZUS President Liwiusz Laska has proposed changing the frequency of these payments, suggesting they could be accumulated and paid out annually rather than monthly to reduce administrative costs. Furthermore, due to the upcoming holiday on November 1, some seniors will receive two pension payments in October as scheduled dates are shifted earlier.
