Poland mandates smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in residences
New safety regulations in Poland are mandating the installation of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in residential properties. While the requirement for all existing dwellings will not become mandatory until January 1, 2030, owners of properties used for short-term rentals must already comply as of June 30. Failure to meet these requirements can result in fines of up to 5,000 PLN and the potential loss of subsidies or insurance claims.
The State Fire Service (PSP) highlighted the urgency of these measures, noting that between October 1, 2025, and January 12, 2026, there were 1,735 reported incidents involving carbon monoxide emissions in residential buildings, leading to 669 poisonings and 31 deaths.
In Tarnów County, the 'Bezpieczny Dom' program has extended its application deadline to October 13. This initiative provides residents with free detectors, professional installation, and safety training conducted by the Volunteer Fire Department (OSP).
