Poland marks 82nd anniversary of Warsaw Uprising with nationwide ceremonies

The 82nd anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising will be observed on 1 August 2026 throughout Poland. At 17:00, the historic “Hour W” will be marked by sirens sounding across the country and church bells ringing in Warsaw. Metropolitan Archbishop Adrian Galbas will attend central ceremonies at the Gloria Victis and Polegli Niepokonani monuments, and a Mass will be celebrated on Plac Krasińskich under the direction of Bishop Wiesław Lechowicz.

All Ekstraklasa and I liga football matches scheduled for 31 July – 3 August will begin with the Polish national anthem and a minute of silence, while the Dolnośląski Związek Piłki Nożnej has advised clubs to avoid kickoff at 17:00, recommending earlier or later start times. The Polish Football Association (PZPN) reinforced the observance, linking the matches to the commemoration.

Local authorities in many towns have organized parallel events: Świdnik will host a patriotic concert after a ceremony at Plac Konstytucji 3 Maja; Rzeszów plans a Mass, an appeal, and an evening concert; Zielona Góra will hold a military‑style remembrance at its municipal war memorial; Dębno will stage historic reenactments, a battle simulation and a terrain game; Garwolin will conduct a Mass and a “Głosy Pamięci” program; Płock scout troops will run a commemorative game; Żary, Żary and other municipalities will hold masses, concerts and exhibitions. EWTN Poland will broadcast a live Mass on Plac Krasińskich at 18:00 on 31 July.

These coordinated activities aim to honour the fallen, reflect on the 63‑day struggle of 1944, and keep the memory of the uprising alive for a new generation.
