Poland medical updates: advanced heart valve procedures and hypertension awareness

Medical specialists in Łódź, Poland, are gaining recognition for advanced minimally invasive cardiac procedures. At the Institute of Mother and Child Health Center (ICZMP), doctors are performing percutaneous pulmonary valve replacements. This technique allows doctors to insert a valve through the femoral vein, avoiding the need to open the chest or use extracorporeal circulation. Patients can often return home within three days of the procedure.

In a separate health initiative, the Ziko Foundation for Health conducted the ‘Poland Under Pressure’ campaign to raise awareness about hypertension. The campaign reported that approximately 11 million adults in Poland may struggle with high blood pressure, with one-third of those affected unaware of their condition. Data from the National Blood Pressure Counter showed that 69% of the 16,467 participants reported elevated or hypertensive readings, with the rate rising to 78% among individuals aged 45–64.
