Poland Ministry of Health rejects reimbursement for breast cancer multigene tests

The Polish Ministry of Health does not plan to reimburse multigene tests for patients with breast cancer. These tests can help some patients avoid the side effects of chemotherapy, which are experienced by approximately 90 percent of treated women according to reports from health institutes and patient foundations.

During a parliamentary health subcommittee meeting, it was noted that such tests could potentially prevent chemotherapy in about 60 percent of patients with early, hormone-dependent, HER2-negative breast cancer. However, the Ministry of Health cited recent recommendations from the Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tariff System (AOTMiT), which advised against reimbursement due to the very high cost of the tests. In April 2026, AOTMiT issued a negative recommendation regarding the classification of the Oncotype DX multigene test as a guaranteed benefit.
