Poland modernizes historic railway stations in Dąbrowa Górnicza and Grudziądz

Polish State Railways (PKP) has signed contracts to renovate two historic railway stations. The Dąbrowa Górnicza Ząbkowice station, built in 1867‑68, will undergo a refurbishment worth over 17.6 million zł, with work scheduled to start this summer. The overhaul will preserve the building’s historic façade while adding a spacious passenger hall, electronic information displays, ticket machines, accessibility upgrades such as a new central staircase with an elevator, and modern sanitary and technical installations.

In Grudziądz, contractor Budimex will rebuild the post‑war modernist station under a 76.3 million zł contract. Completion is slated for mid‑2028. The project includes a full façade replacement, roof renovation with photovoltaic panels, insulation, interior reconstruction, and preservation of original stone cladding and metalwork. New elevators, ramps, accessible toilets, a modern lobby, ticketing kiosks, Wi‑Fi and charging stations will be installed. During construction a temporary station will serve passengers, and the surrounding area will gain new pedestrian routes, parking and green spaces.
