Poland moves ahead with S1 service area tender and A4 highway handover

The General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) opened a tender for the design documentation of new Rest Areas (MOP) on the S1 expressway toward the Slovak border. Two firms submitted offers; the lowest bid of 1,406,751 zł was submitted by Katowice‑based TRAKT, while Warsaw’s Value Engineering offered 2,081,590.50 zł. The scope includes parking for cars, trucks and coaches, rest zones, toilets, playgrounds and electric‑vehicle charging stations. Construction will begin after the design phase, with the facilities expected to be operational by 2029‑2030.

In parallel, Stalexport Autostrady is preparing to transfer the Katowice‑Kraków section of the A4 motorway to the state by mid‑March 2027. The handover requires transfer of extensive project, construction, and administrative documentation. GDDKiA is also planning a third lane on the A4, with a design tender that attracted 14 firms. Current traffic exceeds 50,000 vehicles per day, prompting the expansion. Stalexport will continue maintenance duties until the concession ends.
