Poland mushroom foraging: American bolete and mountain butter bolete trends

Mushroom foraging in Poland is seeing increased interest in specific species during the current season. The slender American bolete (Złotoborowik wysmukły), an invasive species from America, has become highly popular among foragers. It is often referred to as the ‘mushroom for the lazy’ because it tends to grow in large groups, making it easy to locate in sunny pine forests on sandy soil.

Additionally, the mountain butter bolete (Boletus subappendiculatus) remains a notable but less widely known species. Found in coniferous mountain forests on acidic soil, particularly under spruce and fir trees, it is highly valued for drying. Identification requires care, as it can be confused with other species; it is characterized by a cap that transitions from yellow-brown to reddish-brown and tubes that change from bright yellow to olive-yellow without changing color when pressed.
