Poland mushroom season begins with abundance of slender boletes

The mushroom foraging season in Poland is gaining momentum as August brings significant yields in several regions. In the Wielkopolska province, foragers have reported successful harvests, specifically noting the presence of the slender bolete (Boletus projectellus).

Commonly referred to as the ‘American bolete’ or ‘Amerykaniec’, this species from North America has become established in Polish forests, particularly in pine forests with sandy soil. The fungus is edible and is noted for having a delicate, slightly acidic or nutty flavor.

While various species such as porcini, bay boletes, and chanterelles are appearing, the abundance of the slender bolete has been highlighted by local foragers. Experts remind collectors to only harvest specimens they can identify with absolute certainty and to consult specialists if any doubt arises.
