Poland observes Pink October with cancer awareness initiatives
Various communities in Poland are participating in Pink October, the international month for breast cancer awareness, through symbolic gestures and medical outreach.
In Tarnowskie Góry, local officials are wearing pink to promote regular screenings. The city, in collaboration with the National Institute of Oncology in Gliwice, is providing free digital mammography via a mobile mammography unit at the city market for women aged 45 to 74. Additionally, an exhibition titled ‘Siła KobieTY’ (The Strength of Women) is being held at the District Starosty, featuring stories from twelve women who have undergone oncological treatment. Local businesses are also participating, such as the Bra Story salon, which offers breast self-examination training using specialized phantoms.
In Sompolno, the Sompolno School Complex is organizing a ‘Pink Day’ on October 20, 2026. Students, teachers, and staff are encouraged to wear pink to show solidarity and raise awareness about the importance of early detection. Organizers noted that breast cancer awareness is universal, as the disease also affects men, accounting for approximately 1% of all breast cancer cases.
