Poland: Over 200 doctors earn more than 1 million PLN annually

An analysis of data from 182 medical facilities in Poland reveals that at least 213 doctors earned more than 1 million PLN in a single year. In 20 hospitals, the top five highest-earning doctors each earned over 1 million PLN annually, averaging approximately 65,000 PLN per month. In 13 facilities, some doctors earned upwards of 2 million PLN per year.

In Starachowice, hospital officials confirmed the presence of millionaire doctors. The hospital spokesperson explained that these high-value contracts often cover not only the specialist's remuneration but also the costs of an assisting team and the surgical instrumentation required for procedures, meaning the hospital incurs no additional costs for these services.

Reports also highlight challenges regarding physician working conditions and contract negotiations. Some hospital administrators noted that young doctors are demanding high hourly rates, leaving facilities with limited options to fill shifts. Additionally, some records suggest irregularities where doctors appeared to work excessive hours, such as 15 hours a day throughout the year.
