Poland updates pension limits, 14th pension payouts, and senior benefits
Poland's social security landscape is undergoing several changes regarding pensions and benefits. Starting September 1, 2026, new income limits for early retirees and pensioners will take effect. These thresholds, calculated based on average monthly wages, are set at 6,463.20 PLN gross (to avoid benefit reduction) and 12,003.10 PLN gross (above which benefits may be suspended).
Additionally, ZUS will begin distributing the 14th pension in September, with the full amount being 1,978.49 PLN gross for those with pensions below 2,900 PLN. The distribution follows a ‘złotówka za złotówkę’ rule for higher earners.
Other notable updates include the implementation of the ‘senior bond’ (bon senioralny), providing up to 2,150 PLN monthly for care services for seniors aged 65+ with specific income requirements. Furthermore, a new mobile application for the National Senior Card (Ogólnopolska Karta Seniora) has been launched to provide digital access to discounts for those aged 60 and over.
Regarding pension eligibility, discussions continue regarding the ability to collect dual pensions from ZUS and KRUS, which depends on the individual's birth year and fulfillment of specific system requirements. Finally, citizens are reminded to document care periods for children to ensure they are correctly reflected in pension calculations.
