Poland plans legislative changes to accelerate nuclear energy projects
The Polish government is working on an amendment to the nuclear special act to reduce administrative and legal barriers for upcoming investments. The project, prepared by the Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, was recently accepted by the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers.
Key proposed changes include removing the 10-year expiration limit on location decisions, simplifying procedures regarding real estate and preparatory work permits, and establishing secure rules for accessing sensitive technical documentation. Additionally, the plan aims to adjust the financing schedule for Poland's first nuclear power plant to better align with investment needs.
In preparation for large-scale infrastructure projects like the planned nuclear plant on the Baltic coast, divers have completed a 10-month seabed survey covering over 600 hectares. The operation, commissioned by Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe, recovered approximately 500 objects to ensure the area is clear of unexploded ordnance (UXO) before construction begins.
