Poland plans to requisition private vehicles for military readiness

The Polish Ministry of National Defence is planning to utilize private vehicles, trailers, and machinery to test mobilization readiness and support military exercises. According to a draft regulation for 2026, the military intends to requisition 192 vehicles, 26 trailers or semi-trailers, and 15 machines.

Officials clarify that this process is not a confiscation but rather a form of compulsory lease. The vehicles remain the property of the owners, and the military will provide compensation for their use. The selection process is not random; the army seeks specific types of vehicles, such as off-road vehicles, pickups, trucks, buses, and vans, that are useful for logistics or transport in difficult terrain.

The initiative aims to assess how civilian resources can be integrated into military operations during mobilization scenarios. The regulation includes specific procedures, numbers, and compensation rates for the owners of the requisitioned equipment.
