Poland experiences a spate of serious road and rail accidents
In the past week multiple traffic incidents have occurred across Poland, resulting in injuries, fatalities and extensive service disruptions. Two drivers in Ruda Śląska and Krzeszów were caught speeding—one at 112 km/h in a 50 km/h zone and another drifting through an intersection—leading to hefty fines, points and temporary loss of licences.
A collision on national road 57 near Głódki involved a Honda that crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Toyota, injuring three people and closing the road for several hours. A separate crash at the DW 333 junction near Polkowice North saw a motorcyclist plunge into a ditch and die in flames.
On Warsaw’s railway network, an Intercity passenger train struck a person on the tracks near the Żwirki & Wigury stations, killing the victim and forcing a complete shutdown of SKM and Koleje Mazowieckie services, with delays of up to 30 minutes. A freight train accident near Lublin also caused a fatality.
In Pogórze, a farmer’s tractor overturned, killing the 63‑year‑old operator on the spot. Authorities are investigating all incidents, emphasizing driver caution and adherence to safety regulations.
