Poland polls show split views on partner law and Ukraine war timeline

A recent IBRiS poll for Polsat News found that 53 % of Polish respondents support signing the new "closest person" law, which would allow adult couples to contract a notarial agreement covering property regime, alimony and medical information access as an alternative to marriage. Opposition stands at 37.4 %, with higher support among women (59.3 %) than men (46 %). President Karol Nawrocki has said he will not sign the law that contravenes the constitutional definition of marriage, but is open to measures that aid informal partnerships.

Another United Surveys poll for Wirtualna Polska shows that 76 % of Poles do not expect the war in Ukraine to end by 2026. The scepticism is strongest among supporters of the governing coalition (87 % negative), while a minority of opposition voters (16 %) are more optimistic. Among respondents with no party affiliation, 38 % believe the conflict could end by that year. The survey was conducted in late May with a representative sample of 1,000 adults.
