Poland prepares 50 million euro air defense aid package for Ukraine

Poland is preparing a 50 million euro military aid package for Ukraine, specifically focused on air defense systems. This decision was announced following the 36th meeting of the Ramstein Group. While the specific types and quantities of equipment have not been disclosed, Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski confirmed the commitment to bolster Ukraine's ability to defend against aerial attacks.

In a related development, Germany has announced it will supply Ukraine with PAC-2 interceptor missiles for Patriot systems and AIM-9 missiles from Bundeswehr stocks before the winter season. Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has also advocated for continued support of Ukraine's air defenses, arguing that a strong Ukrainian defense helps maintain security at Poland's borders.

Separately, data from Poland's Central Statistical Office (GUS) reveals the significant economic toll of the Russia-Ukraine war. Between 2022 and 2025, the conflict is estimated to have cost Poland over 490 billion PLN. This includes 292.1 billion PLN in losses for Polish households, 126 billion PLN for businesses, and 72 billion PLN for the government and local authorities. Additionally, Poland's defense spending increased by 154.2 billion PLN during this period.
