Poland prioritizes development of new heavy armored personnel carrier

Brigadier General Grzegorz Potrzuski, head of the Planning and Development Programming Directorate of the Polish General Staff, has identified the acquisition of a new, heavier wheeled armored personnel carrier (KTO) as a strategic priority for the Polish Armed Forces.

While the existing Rosomak fleet remains vital and will undergo ongoing modernization—including the integration of the ZSSW-30 turret and electronic warfare systems—officials emphasize that these upgrades are temporary measures. The original design requirements for Rosomak, such as amphibious capabilities, impose weight limits that prevent the indefinite addition of heavy armor, mine protection, and anti-drone systems.

Drawing lessons from the conflict in Ukraine, the military leadership stresses the need for vehicles that can better withstand drones, mines, and artillery. Consequently, defining and procuring a heavier, more robust platform is being prioritized to meet the evolving demands of the future battlefield.
